A:
Yes, Sebastian, YOU are helpless, and so are the rest of us.
As you have discovered, none of us can free ourselves.
Relying solely on our own efforts and strength, we will fail every
single time.
The key to overcoming this addiction, then, is not to go into battle
alone.
Take God with you. As our Lord said, "With man it is impossible.
But, for God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE."
We
cheat ourselves only when we leave God on the outside and fail to
include Him in our efforts and in our very thoughts, words and deeds.
What is important for someone who is heading down the path of despair
and discouragement, is to re-evaluate the priorities in your life.
That is, ask yourself - "Where does God fit in to my life?" Does
He come first, last, somewhere in the middle or is He missing
altogether from life's day to day activities?
God is using this addiction to bring all of us who suffer from it
closer to Him.
Ask
yourself - How hard would you struggle to grow closer to God were you
to be totally free from affliction and suffering?
As St. Therese of Lisieux once
said:
"A day without suffering
is a day without God."
Please know that you, and all
those like you, are included in our daily prayers.
God Bless you!
