The Sin of Pride and its Impact on Sexual Addiction

This addiction, this cross, has a great deal to do with pride.

One priest told me that this sin was a manifestation of a lack of charity and love of neighbor. Unfortunately, speaking from my own experience and from the experience of many others, most of us will have to bear this cross for the rest of our lives. St. Paul speaks of asking God to remove a "thorn in his side." Jesus' response was no, the thorn must remain, saying, "My grace is sufficient for you." Everyone is given a cross in some form. This is ours.

Keep working to be pure and holy in God's sight as you struggle with your addiction. Rather than seeking success in the world's eyes, take the path of humility and smallness, combined with an increased awareness of the importance of being charitable, kind and loving toward others. This will help you to realize more success in overcoming the addiction than anything else.

Prayer, in all of its forms, is most effective in fighting off temptations.

Keep praying and stay close to God, no matter how many times you may fall.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.

"A fight is going on inside me," he says to the boy.  "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One is evil - he is anger, envy sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is good - he is gratitude, joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy ,generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather which wolf would win.

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Justice, Pornography and the Marriage Covenant

"Most people do not realize that when a married spouse becomes involved with porn it is not only an act of adultery but also a sin against justice.

You are robbing the other spouse of what is rightfully theirs.

In Holy Matrimony your sensual bodily pleasures no longer belong to you but to your spouse.

The sin is then multiplied."

The Tree of Life

"Then the angel showed me the river of life-giving water, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of its street. On either side of the river grew the tree of life that produces fruit twelve times a year, once each month; the leaves of the trees serve as medicine for the nations. Nothing accursed will be found there anymore. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will look upon his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Night will be no more, nor will they need light from lamp or sun, for the Lord God shall give them light, and they shall reign forever and ever." - Revelation 22:1-5

Life comes from the relationships of the Trinity, from their very eternal actions related to one another. And since the three persons form one Godhead, Life is God.

To be pro-life is to perceive life as something which serves not just our own purposes, but something that should also be served. A pro-life person is in love with life, while someone who is not pro-life loves life for their own purposes and agendas. And the problem becomes that these purposes and agendas are not rooted in life.

The citizens of heaven are totally alive. They see that life is God clearly. And with the fullness of redemption they are moving towards the world to come where there will be the very fullness of this life. Hell, on the other hand, the journey of the damned is one which forms a cacophony of self-love. The citizens there love life, just enough to hate it.

True Sexuality is the fruitfulness of life. And yet what does the modern age produce in fruits? Does it create a fruitful paradise? Is it a journey into the celestial domains?
